چکیده

By LAWRENCE E. YOUNG, M.D., DONALD M. ERVIN, M.D., AND CHARLES L. YUILE, M.D. H EMOLYTIC transfusion reactions occur more frequently than is generally appreciated and their incidence can be expected to increase for some time as the distribution of blood is facilitated. Many are doubtless overlooked because the outward manifestations may not be particularly striking, especially in anesthetized patients and in certain recipients transfused with plasma or with blood from universal donors. Despite the increasing importance of such reactions, their pathologic physiology remains poorly understood and cannot be adequately explored in human subjects. Consideration of these facts stimulated the authors to make observations on planned hemolytic reactions in dogs with the hope that the results might find general application in the field of immuno-hematology, and that they might throw light on the behavior of the kidney when subjected to certain types of insult. The purpose of this paper is to describe preliminary serologic and hematologic observations on reactions produced in dogs by transfusion of incompatible whole blood and plasma. Typical experiments are cited to illustrate the usefulness of iso-immune systems in the dog in making quantitative studies of hemolytic phenomena. Alterations in renal physiology observed during these experiments are described in an accompanying report.’

Transfusion reactions to plasma constituent of whole blood; their pathogenesis and treatment by washed red blood cell transfusions.

EACTIONS to the transfusion of blood are ordinarily classified as pyrogenic, allergic or hemolytic. The first two are relatively minor in importance, but hemolytic transfusion reactions, usually due to the use of incompatible blood, are severe and may be lethal. Another type of reaction to whole blood, not previously described, was observed by us in at least ii cases during the past three years...

A newly recognized blood group in domestic shorthair cats: the Mik red cell antigen.

BACKGROUND Naturally occurring alloantibodies produced against A and B red cell antigens in cats can cause acute hemolytic transfusion reactions. Blood incompatibilities, unrelated to the AB blood group system, have also been suspected after blood transfusions through routine crossmatch testing or as a result of hemolytic transfusion reactions. HYPOTHESIS Incompatible crossmatch results among...

Evaluation of complications of ABO incompatibility following blood transfusion in 2019

Abstract Background and Objectives One of the dangers of blood transfusions is the mistakes that lead to the wrong blood transfusion to the patient. This study was performed to identify the types of errors that lead to incompatible transfusions to prevent their recurrence and increase recipients health. Materials and Methods This cross-sectional study was performed on complications of A...

Canine Dal blood type: A red cell antigen lacking in some Dalmatians.

BACKGROUND Based upon alloantibodies produced after sensitizing dogs with transfused blood, more than a dozen blood group systems have been recognized thus far, and some have been classified as dog erythrocyte antigens (DEA). HYPOTHESIS A new canine red cell antigen was suspected, based on the development of specific alloantibodies in a Dalmatian previously sensitized by blood transfusions. ...
